  • Arduino Mega R3, Atmega 2560

    The Arduino Mega is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega1280 (datasheet). It has 54 digital input/output pins (of which 14 can be used as PWM outputs), 16 analog inputs, 4 UARTs (hardware serial ports), a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started. The Mega is compatible with most shields designed for the Arduino Duemilanove or Diecimila.

    The PC to Arduino Bluetooth serial connection can be useful in many applications such as controlling servos, motors, and writing to LCDs. The Arduino to PC connection can be useful in applications where the Arduino reads sensors then pass their values via serial Bluetooth to a PC for processing. The distance for this transceiver is about 30 feet or so but it really depends on many other variables.

All pins are spaced by a standard 0.1″. The two sets of five columns are separated by about 0.3″, perfect for straddling a DIP package over. The board accepts wire sizes in the range of 20-29AWG.

    This board also has a self-adhesive on the back. The boards also have interlocking parts, so you can hook as many together as you’d like.

    Side-looking Infrared Emitters and IR Detectors. These simple devices operate at 940nm and work well for generic IR systems including remote control and touch-less object sensing. Using a simple ADC on any microcontroller will allow variable readings to be collected from the detector. The emitter is driven up to 50mA with a current limiting resistor as with any LED device. The detect is a NPN transistor that is biased by incoming IR light.

  • Potentiometer

    An adjustable potentiometer can open up many interesting user interfaces. Turn the pot and the resistance changes. Connect VCC to an outer pin, GND to the other, and the center pin will have a voltage that varies from 0 to VCC depending on the rotation of the pot. Hook the center pin to an ADC on a microcontroller and get a variable input from the user!

    This pot has a ¼” mounting diameter and has a 10K linear taper. Check the datasheet for dimensional drawings.
